村庄宁静得像墓地一样。我睡不着，又不敢吵醒妻子，她哭哭啼啼了好几天，我们并不真正期待的新生命，在没来到这个世界之前，就意料之中地惨碎在了我们暗红的期望里。“我们得怀个孩子，”茹在灶房还有床头曾跟我嘟囔了许多遍，“我怀上了，咱们就有救了。”

院子边上的笼子里有三只母鸡，偶尔，它们会啄破自己下的蛋。茹做人工流产的那天，我把其中一只杀了，给她炖了一锅野菜鸡汤。她吃不下，我也吃不下，大概是从那个时候起，我和妻子都不再吃鸡肉了。
