柳宗元 《柳州城西北隅种柑树》

手种黄柑二百株，春来新叶遍城隅。
方同楚客怜皇树，不学荆州利木奴。
几岁开花闻喷雪，何人摘实见垂珠。
若教坐待成林日，滋味还堪养老夫。

I grow two hundred citrus trees in town
Spreading its corner with new leaves in spring
I love as Qu Yuan did the godly plant  
Not to use the trees to make a living  
When will they blaze with snowy blossoms?
Who will pick the fruits the branches bending?  
Could I wait to see a forest of them  
When old I would savor the tasty thing

     Victorious men of earth, no more
       Proclaim how wide your empires are;
     Though you bind-in every shore
       And your triumphs reach as far
          As night and day,
       Yet you, proud monarchs, must obey
     And mingle with forgotten ashes, when
     Death calls ye to the crowd of common men.

成者王侯慢夸口：帝国广邈镇敌手。
征战频捷无日夜，挥鞭指处四海收。
傲气冲天王朝建，死神来访有何谋？
一朝成灰谁追忆？贵体厕身百黔首，

     Devouring Famine, Plague, and War,
       Each able to undo mankind,
     Death's servile emissaries are;
       Nor to these alone confined,
          He hath at will
       More quaint and subtle ways to kill;
     A smile or kiss, as he will use the art,
     Shall have the cunning skill to break a heart.

饥荒瘟疫与战争，毁灭人类各有能。

High tower on the city wall overlooks a vast wasteland
Between the sea and the sky is a thick layer of sorrow
Rough winds disturb the lotus leaves in the water
Slanting rain densely beats the fig covered walls
Trees in the hills hold back a view of thousand miles
A winding river is like my sadness-laden intestines *
Together, guys, we came to this land of tattooed natives
And yet our correspondence is hard to reach each other

* The Chinese believe that intestines are places of emotion.

临屏涂鸦都搞得那么好。佩服方先生的英语和汉语功底。我好像也翻译过类似的一首。觉得他们喜欢看中文的神秘，譬如中文用Intestines代表储藏Emotion的地方。  “ The Chinese believe that intestines are places of emotion”

Beating the city walls the fig plants cover
I see thick woods the distant hills make
That block a thousand miles view
The winding river flows like a snake
Also like the intestines of me and you
We together are now assigned to civil service
To rule the tattooed natives on this land
Yet isolated we are on this hilly surface
Our letters hardly reach each other’s hand

黑云翻墨未遮山，白雨跳珠乱入船。
卷地风来忽吹散，望湖楼下水如天。

   Since the ancient times,
   There is only one way to Yu Temple and Lan Pavilion.
   Frost throughout the night,
   Has dyed all the trees on the lakeside.
   The parrot cup is deep indeed, but please don't  complain.
    After being apart today, where  can we meet again?
    Time is flying, and I can't stop it in any way,
    In the mirror my youth will be slowly gone away.
    Oh, one thing that you have to remember,
     The one who is free as a fairy must be a slacker.
