Some info I heard from the guide during the trip to Juneau:
with the global warming, largely due to the human activities, Alaska glacier (in my Juneau picture) is retreating 300-400 feet per year, when the weather is really hot ( like this year), it will retreat 600+ feet. When I was there in early july, it was so hot, 87F, unbelievable, almost as hot as Bay area in a heat wave.
She also said that there is a website which keeps the snapshot of daily changes on these glaciers. The glaciers are not white and clean as I imagined, in fact they are quite dusty and dirty on the top area, It is sad that to see the ice melting and floating aimlessly near Juneau and Tracy arm area, some have interesting shapes , like art work.
