As a matter of fact, Don't open any spam mail even it is without attachements.
Why? Many reasons. One of the reasons is that the hacker may not know your email is a valid email when he sent email to you, he just send it to auto created email addresses to test the water. But if you open the email the hacker may have a way to know that your email is a valid email. He will then continue to send email to you or sell your valid email address to other spam senders.
How does he know if you open his email or not?
The spam mail could be a html format email with image link back to the hacker's site. If you open the email, it will call a image (or even just a zero pixel image) from the hacker's site. The hacker could program to monitor http visits of that image and then detect if you open the email or not, and if you open it, then this email is a valid email address he will send more spam to later on. Or sell this email address to other spam senders.
