近日加州好雨频频，趁着心情好，翻译杜甫诗一首：


春夜喜雨

杜甫

好雨知时节，
当春乃发生。
随风潜入夜，
润物细无声。
野径云俱黑，
江船火独明。
晓看红湿处，
花重锦官城。

Good rains know the proper time to come
It ‘s no better than the pleasant season of spring
Riding the wind it steals into the night unnoticed
Quietly nourishing all that is on earth dwelling
Dark are the country roads, so are the clouds
A lone boat, sleepy with a light, rests on the river
I look at where it is red and wet at dawn
It’s none other than the petals of the brocade town.

此诗一定早有译本，但是译无定法，况且自己翻译乃是一种脑力游戏，其乐无穷。

第二句意思有出入。第六行裡﹐沒有SLEEPY之意。過猶不足。最後句中﹐“重”沒譯
出。“錦官城”不能只譯作“錦城”。否則就音譯。
總的來說﹐再可簡練。

I do not know if the 重 should be read as chong2 or zhong4.
錦官城 comes from the fact that the brocade business was so developed in Chengdu that the government set up a special office for managing it. The officials were called 錦官. So i think it is ok to refer to the city as brocade city.

The poem describes a rainy night, so it is alright to add "sleepy" here.

凑个热闹，献丑何妨。

It does come in the very season of spring
Sneaking through the night with wind
Gently and quietly it nourishes the nature
Dark clouds cover the path in the wildness
A lamp in a boat illuminates the river’s loneliness
At dawn red and wet places become noticeable
The brocade city has nothing but petals and flowers

“重”字想來是花開多而顯得有些沉重之意。
一改簡練多了。但第一句中有兩個RAIN不妥。
中文裡的“物”﹐以前老一代的翻譯家常譯成(ALL)  THINGS。

谢英语前辈赐教。在下居蓉多年，成都自古有清晨售花习俗，于今犹盛。“重”窃以为念chong, 乃是花团锦簇之意也。夜雨打湿待售的花朵，更加水灵鲜艳，但也有些花被雨水浇落，成为“落红”，因而更为抢眼。

此乃我凑趣另译，未敢掠方壶斋先生之美也。
