路易·波拿巴的雾月十八日

good one, or the Critique of Political Economy.

When I was about sixteen, I was introduced to Marxism by a young
Belgian socialist, whom I had got to know on holiday, and who is now
one of his country's ambassadors abroad. I was all the more delighted
by Marx in that the reading of the works of the great thinker brought
me into contact for the first time with the line of philosophical development
running from Kant to Hegel; a whole new world was opened up to me.
Since then, my admiration for Marx has remained constant, and I
rarely broach a new sociological problem without first stimulating my
thought by rereading a few pages of The 18th Brumaire of Louis
Bonaparte or the Critique of Political Economy. Incidentally, Marx's
quality has nothing to do with whether or not he accurately foresaw
certain historical developments. Following Rousseau, and in what I
consider to be a definitive manner, Marx established that social science
is no more founded on the basis of events than physics is founded
sense data: the object is to construct a model and to study its property
and its different reactions in laboratory conditions in order later to
apply the observations to the interpretation of empirical happenings,
which may be far removed from what had been forecast.

At a different level of reality, Marxism seemed to me to proceed in the
same manner as geology and psychoanalysis (taking the latter in the
sense given it by its founder). All three demonstrate that understanding
consists in reducing one type of reality to another; that the true reality is
never the most obvious; and that the nature of truth is already indicated
by the care it takes to remain elusive. For all cases, the same problem
arises, the problem of the relationship between feeling and reason,
and the aim is the same: to achieve a kind of superrationalism, which
will integrate the first with the second, without sacrificing any of its
properties.

Tristes Tropiques, Claude Levi-Strauss

最近在纽约公交上常见到青年人夹着一本马克思,好时兴!
